Project Objective
High Peak Borough Council commissioned Phoenix Decarbonisation to deliver a fast-tracked solar PV installation at Queens Court Care Home, aiming to enhance the building’s energy efficiency, reduce grid dependency, and lower operational costs.
The challenge was to design, install, and commission a fully compliant system within a strict two-week window (17–28 March 2025) to meet funding deadlines. As the site was a live care environment, safety and accessibility were key priorities, requiring careful planning and coordination with care home staff, residents, and emergency services.
The Challenges
The compressed schedule and live care environment presented two primary challenges:
Technical: Supply chain issues with subsequent design alterations required caused a strain on the project timeline.
Operational: Working around residents and staff in a sensitive setting required maintaining access, safety, and comfort at all times.
Phoenix responded with a rapid redesign of the string configuration and resubmission of the G99 grid application, ensuring full compliance and project continuity. Engineers also planned controlled power shutdowns in advance, liaised closely with the fire service, and assisted residents with mobility needs to maintain safety and minimise disruption.
The Outcome
Phoenix successfully delivered the full installation on time and within the £37,800 budget, showcasing adaptability, technical excellence, and collaborative working.
The system comprised:
- 102 Longi HiMo6 HTB 435W all-black mono solar panels
- Solax X3-Mega G2 50kW three-phase inverter
- Estimated annual generation: 35,850 kWh (covering approx. 32% of site electricity use).
Additional value was delivered through the installation of bird netting to protect panels from fouling damage, extending system lifespan and maintaining long-term efficiency.
Phoenix’s rapid problem-solving, precise project management, and resident-focused delivery ensured a smooth installation within a live environment – meeting all deadlines without compromise on quality or safety.
