The rise and rise of Phoenix
Stoke-on-Trent based Phoenix Gas and Renewable Technologies are continuing to strengthen the team, and demonstrating a commitment to training and development, with a further intake of apprentices. Keen to develop their own, locally based talent, Phoenix currently employ 13 apprentices, as part of their continual commitment to build a trained workforce for the future.
Lewis Kearns and Mckenzie Stacy join Phoenix as Apprentice Gas Engineers and Jessica Edwards joins as Apprentice Administrator. They will be learning on the job alongside attending college to focus on the theory of their apprenticeship qualification. Additionally, Phoenix has also taken on Heather Greer in the warehouse as part of the Government Kick Start Initiative.
Casey Brunt who is currently in has recently completed his gas engineering apprenticeship tells us, “Phoenix is a great place to work and learn. I was always more practical than academic at school and I knew that learning a trade would suit me better than full time education. Working alongside the gas engineers, I love the camaraderie in the team, meeting customers and the job satisfaction of getting people’s heating systems back up and running. I feel like I’m working towards a career for life, not just a doing a job.”
Phoenix is a family-owned business of some 20+ years standing, with headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent and established satellites in Oldbury and Newcastle upon Tyne, with a new office in Darlington set to open in January. A rise in demand for their services over the past year, and a diversification into renewable energy technology, has seen Phoenix welcome 40 new people to the company, in the past 12 months alone.
The business has gone from strength to strength and now directly employs 130 team members, supported by a further 50 sub-contractors. The search for candidates continues in 2022 with opportunities available not only for gas engineers, but across the spectrum of the growing renewable technology business.
Kirsty Brazier, HR Director at Phoenix says, “We are keen to hear from experienced gas, electrical or renewable technicians, or those well placed and enthusiastic to enhance their careers in this sector. We have a great culture at Phoenix, where you’ll have all the benefits of working for an established company with a progressive outlook. A company where you’ll have the opportunity to contribute, grow and develop. Over the years, we have demonstrated our commitment to training and development by investing in many apprenticeships, alongside other qualifications. Many of our apprentices have gone on to work in the trade and build careers with us. It’s really rewarding to see the former apprentices, now working in supervisory roles in the business.”
