Last month, Lucy Antcliffe from our Commercial team took on the Rat Race 100 ultramarathon from Edinburgh to Glamis on 25 July in memory of her sister, Chel.
The incredible 100-mile challenge took Lucy across coastal paths, roads and beaches, alongside 600 other participants. With more than a third of runners unable to complete the course, it was a true test of endurance. After setting off on Saturday, Lucy crossed the finish line at 9pm on Sunday evening, completing the challenge in an astonishing 36 hours.
The warm weather made the event even more demanding. At one stage, Lucy became unwell, vomiting and coming close to being withdrawn from the race. Thankfully, after a short rest to allow her stomach to settle, she was able to continue and complete the course.
After eight months of dedicated training, Lucy’s determination paid off. Over the course of the challenge, she covered 100 miles, took around 230,000 steps, and burned an estimated 15,000 calories.
Lucy and her family have already raised more than £3,000 for The Macmillan Horizon Centre in Brighton and Pink Sisters & Misters in Stoke-on-Trent, in memory of Chel.
Congratulations to Lucy on this remarkable achievement and for taking on such an inspiring challenge in memory of Chel.
